Over the last few weeks, we evaluated several of the top picture books from 2017 and chose our favorite. Below is our winner and honor books. Great choices this year, second graders.

Claymates was our winner by a landslide. This book is illustrated by Lauren Eldridge and uses mixed media to create humorous creations with the lump of gray and the lump of brown clay.

Ishi
During the month of December, we will be enjoying Ishi: Simple Tips from a Solid Friend. We will then create our own Ishis to help us think positively.

For the next several weeks, we are learning about Genres in library class. A genre is defined as a category of children's literature that shares the same characteristics of plot, tone, mood, settings, characters and themes. We are focusing on the following 5 genres in second grade:

To support the second graders study of the solar system, we will be reading How Oliver Olson Changed the World by Claudia Mills. This book will also begin our study of GENRES. Oliver Olson belongs to the genre Realistic Fiction.
