Service Squad
The Mills Pond Service Squad is a volunteer program that is open to all interested 5th grade students. It requires a participating student to forfeit one recess time per week.
As a member of the squad, students are assigned to a specific teacher who has expressed a desire to have 5th grade helpers in his/her classroom. Students are randomly assigned to either a classroom or a special area teacher. Responsibilities vary depending upon the teacher but tasks may include preparing and organizing materials (cutting, gluing, sorting), shelving books, helping younger students, sharpening pencils, running errands, and other small tasks.
Service squad members in the past have very much enjoyed this community service experience of helping others.
