Trickster Tales are a type of folktale in which one of the main characters tries to trick the other characters. The trickster may be greedy, boastful or lazy. In any case, they are funny and entertaining tales. As we read a few Trickster Tales, we will be learning about the different Elements that help us understand a story.

We are beginning to discuss the differences between fiction and nonfiction books in the library. In a few weeks, your child will be taking 2 books home from the library, one fiction and one nonfiction. The features we are learning about in nonfiction are: Title Page, Table of Contents, Photographs, Maps, Diagrams and Index. Enjoy searching for these features with your child.
Fiction vs Nonfiction
We are beginning to share stories and research polar animals to support the classroom curriculum study of penguins. After we read a fiction story about a particular animal, we access our Polar Animals Glog to learn nonfiction information about each animal. Feel free to visit the glog by clicking on the picture.

At the end of March, we will be learning what a Biography is and what information is contained in a biographical book. We will be reading about an extraordinary woman, Helen Keller, using the ebook Helen Keller, Miracle Child. We will also support the classroom science curriculum by participating in learning activities about the senses. And students will have the opportunity to 'feel' Braille in order to understand the difficulties Helen faced as a deaf, blind person. We will also have fun decoding Braille words into written English.
